Banishing Blemishes - A Teen Survival Guide

Banishing blemishes should be at the top of most teen's survival skills. As early as 12 or 13 years old many teens are already battling nasty breakouts. Even though there's no guaranteed way to prevent blackheads and whiteheads from rearing, there are a few tricks to fending the majority off.

Be a Smart Shopper - Shop for moisturizing lotions and make up that says "noncomedogenic" or "nonacnegenic" on the label. These terms both refer to ingredients that won't you're your pores and irritate your skin.

Ban Oily Hair Products - If you suffer from oily or acne-prone skin nix the hair spray and gel. These beautifiers contain oils that are the number one cause of pimples on teen's foreheads and around their hairlines. If you can't possibly go without your gooey hair products just keep them away from your face. Even go as far as to cover your face with a towel when spraying hairspray.

Wear Breathable Clothing - If you are prone to blemishes on your forehead refrain from wearing tight baseball caps, toques and handkerchiefs on your head. If you tend to break out on your chest and back wear loose shirts and stay away from tight materials that don't breathe, rub and irritate the skin.

Never Pop a Zit - Popping a whitehead is tempting! We've all been there, but learned to regret it when we're left with an acne scar or painful swelling. Popping pimples does more damage then good. It pushes the pus further into the skin, which can spread acne further or cause permanent scarring.

You are What you Eat - Do your best to incorporate fresh foods into your diet. Substitute a piece of fruit or fresh vegetables for candy bars and greasy potato chips whenever possible. Your skin will reflect the goodness of the foods you eat.

Use Acne Fighters - Many over-the-counter acne washes and acne cleansers can clear up your acne. You may have to test a few different kinds to find the one that best works with your skin type. If you have a dermatologist it's best to ask them to recommend a product. If you don't, ask your pharmacist to recommend an over-the-counter acne wash containing benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid - two very effective acne-fighting ingredients.

Ask for Help - If you've sampled a number of over-the-counter acne treatments with no luck, it's time to make an appointment with a dermatologist or your doctor. Although it might be embarrassing to talk about your acne, getting medical advice from a professional will help clear your acne up sooner and prevent acne scarring and skin damage that may occur if it's left too long.

acne is really really embarrasing especially 4 us teenage girls. We always worry of wat other people think wen they see us break out. But the point is that if we worry, we stress and thats , i think, is the bottom line for acne. So try not to stress !!! i deal with not exacly acne, but breakouts

i've tried everything from Proactive to Clearasil to anything in between, i've bought atleast one of everything that the store in my town carries and i ended up going to see my doctor for a prescription. acne was my problem because my hormones are completely out of whack, which is common with teenagers and even into young adults. with the help of YAZ to help balance them out, and i had to end up going to Clinique's 3 step acne clearing system. it's amazing, it keeps your skin tight and firm while it breathes and stays clean. i definitely reccomend it for someone struggling with acne.
