Rosacea

Rosacea, pronounced "roh-zay-sha", is a chronic facial skin disorder that is commonly seen, but poorly understood. Rosacea affects about 14-million Americans. Adults between the ages of 30 and 60-years-old - especially women during their menopausal years - are the main group that suffers from rosacea. For this reason, rosacea is often referred to as "adult acne".

Rosacea is most commonly recognized by redness on the nose, cheeks, chin and forehead. It also appears when visible blood vessels or pimples appear on the face. In addition, people with rosacea often suffer from irritated or watery eyes. The cause of rosacea is unknown; however, sun exposure, emotional stress, consumption of hot beverages and spicy foods often trigger and worsen it. And while their are many treatments for this type of skin disorder, there is no permanent cure.

I have had rosacea since i was about 15 or sixteen. it runs in my family. every single one of us started see signs after using an abrasive scrub on our faces, like an aprcot scrub. i used the scrub to get rid of black heads, my first sign. i am 27 now and everyone mistakes me to be much older. i never had a problem with acne until just recently. my eyes are always itchy and my eye dr. told me to use patonol eye drops. that helps wiht that. now the itchy dry scalp and flakes i use head and sholders shampoo and separate conditioner. even my hair is dry, lol. back to my face... i used the creams and the antibiotics. the cream didnt work and the antibiotics gave me a yeast infections and a really bad one. so i stoped using it. i started to use a nutrogena ance cream that stated it for acne and helps with inflamations. twenty dollars later. i was satisfied. it helped alot. my skin is not perfect but i can at least walk out of my house with out any conclealer. well i hope everyone has better luck then me. i have a great feeling that my skin is going to get much worse the older i get. i really should stop drinking hot liquids like coffee and tea and warmed milk but i cant. thanks for listening. nancy

I used proactiv on my rosacea and it cleared it up but using proactiv on my skin seemed to burn and really bother me. I quit using it and the rosacea has come back on my nose and cheeks but my forehead seems fine. What gives? Now I think I am getting acne as well. I have had rosacea since my early 30's and have been on metrogel for a year or two but quit using it as it was not helping. I am now 47 and the rosacea is worse than ever and feel that the rosacea is going down my neck and going into the scalp more. I just don't know what to do anymore.

I was diagnosed for rosacea about six months ago. I know why it happened to me because of my continuous exposure in the hot sun and stress due to my work conditions. My doctor recommended me with Dermadoctor 2 in 1 rosacea treatment system. I used it for about three months but found not benefits from it for my rosacea which was spreading like hell all over my chin, nose and forehead. I didn't know what to do and had stopped taking my doctors advice as I found it of no help in treating my rosacea. One day I was searching for rosacea treatment articles online and came across this site zenmed.com which promised of healthy skin from all types of skin ailments like rosacea, acne, pimples, scars. I overlooked this site as I took them to be as any other skin care product company who advertise a lot but have dull and ineffective products. A few days passed and I got a phone call from my Aunt who lives in UK, while talking with her I asked her if she knew any good products for treating rosacea. Her first words were try zenmed, they are the best where treating acne, rosacea and other skin ailments are concerned. That was it for me, I bought they product online, got a good price off and above all within two weeks of using the treatment kit, i could notice the redness was diminishing and the affected areas started to look better and they were no flare-ups. Within a months time I was completely free from rosacea. I never ever suffered of any type of skin irritation while using the product. I really recommend zenmed's rosacea treatment kit to all of those who are suffering from rosacea. Thank you Aunty Karen and thank you Zenmed. Tanya

I am taking doxycycline for my rosacea. The doctor states I will have to be on a pill for the rest of my life. I am a little nervous about this. Does anyone else take this and is it safe. I read the label and of course it is just like taking aspirin. It has a million side effects. If there is a better way please let me know.

Hi! I went to a dermatoligist for this and he never told me a thing. He said I had what appeared to be melanoma and wanted to cut away a piece of my face! Like it wasn't already bad enough! I am 49 now and was 45 at that time. I have had this condition most of my life, though it gets disguised as Acne in the teen years.! Well, I looked at some brochures in the office and found info on rosacea and figured out that that was what I had. There was an excellent site by skin professionals in January, 2005, that I found when I started doing my own research. The company was Bass & Boney, Inc. I can't find them now, but they gave me a personal breakdown of what I had to do to get my condition under control, as well as diet and cleansing. Here's the kicker~topical sulfer treatments help reduce the swelling and redness of the facial veins caused by rosacea. I am allergic to sulfer! I had ordered their medication which consisted of 2 discs that are applied to your skin after cleansing. They even give you a personalized time table of when to start each one. The yellow one was more on the mild side and I was able to use it. After a month, I started to use the stronger tan disc and it immediately irritated my skin. I figured out (also on my own) that I wa allergic to the sulfer, which is what one of the the main ingredients is in these and most other topical medications for this condition. Zinc is another. They also suggest cleansing with Cetaphil bar soap, which completely, immediately made my face so dry it actually felt like it cracked when I moved my mouth! So I went back to Dove gentle exfoliating face wash. It's very mild and doesn't dry out or irritate my face like the cetaphil did. They also suggested applying a few drops of Jojoba Oil to your wet face immediately after washing it. You put a few drops into the palm of one hand and blend it with the other palm and apply. I thought this was weird because I always had oily skin and here I was adding oil. HOWEVER~ this oil, when purchased in a pure form, is as close to the human body's natural skin oil, so it mimics your own oils and therefore tells your body that you don't have to secreet any additional oil, which clogs pores and causes blemishes and overheats the facial skin, which causes the rosacea flare ups. I've only been able to find it at Aveeda. It's bottled under "All Senstive." Don't make the mistake of ordering it online unless this is what you order, as there are 4 different forms of oil. The most expensive is the most pure form, which is what you want to buy. Also, drink at leat 100 ounces of water a day. I know, it's a lot, but it really works. And tap water is better as it is more alkiline than bottled. Acidic foods cause flare-ups. Supposedly red wine over white or blush causes flare-ups, but I have the opposite reaction. Following the diet they provided (meaning what to avoid eating) helped a lot. You learn how manage it after awhile and know right away what causes the flare-ups~~stress, lack of sleep, lack of water, too much alchohol. I found that A&D Zinc cream helps tremendously when my nose gets too inflamed. I use it at night and sometimes under make up during the day. Stay away from chemical SPF'S found in make up. Use the night formulas all the time. Also, BARE MINERALS foundation, which is a mineral-based powder foundation, is EXCELLENT at covering most of the redness. It also contains a mineral based SPF, which is good for rosacea sufferers. And you really can keep it on all day and sleep in it and it doesn't come off and it doesn't irritate your skin at all. It washes off with the Dove facial cleanser, and I don't reccommend sleeping in any make-up at all. But once in a great while, it happens. I tested it. It's AWESOME!!!! It's not a cure, but I can go out and not feel like everyone is looking at me and talking about how red my face is. Guys can also use this. When applied properly, no one will ever know you are wearing any make up at all. Good Luck to all of us and pray for a cure!! Teri C.

I had rosacea for years. Then one day someone gave me a gift pack with a friut acid in it. I started using it and in just a few weeks I could see the difference in the flakiness of my skin. Take meds for the break out but stay away from foundation. the more you apply the worse things look. Keep skin natural a much as possible with light concealers and properly applied blush. I later moved on the Renova. Some doctors feel it will only make it worse and for the first month or so it may but use it sparingly and be patient and you 'll have beautiful skin. I get compliments all the time and have continued my use of the renova for years. The embarassment of Rosacea it difficult. I no longer have any signs of Rosacea and have not for years. I still have dry skin and I still don't use and foundation. Now I just have really great skin.

Had a lot of the same symptoms with my eyes as well, plus reoccurences of pink eye. I found that if I rinsed them with a saline solution (either sea salt and water or soft contact lense cleaner) once or twice a day they are better. Also being using Alaway eyedrops (now available over the counter) and those have really helped!

I take Omega 3 Fish Oil Vitamins, they are supposed to help with lubricating the eyes and seem to work for me, if I take them as directed on the label.

I have moderate rosacea all over my forehead and cheeks. Recently, my eyes started burning like heck. I have these little red beads in both my bottom lids. I'm assuming the rosacea has spread into my eyes. I am scared and depressed. I had them checked by an eye specialist and he told me my eyes were dry. I mentioned that my eyes felt like I had grit or sand in them as well. He said......I hear that a lot. What a help!! Restasis is a nightmare of burning so I pulled off of them. I began using Refresh Liquigel moisturing drops from the drugstore. At first they seemed to help then the severe burning began from the drops and my left eye became extremely inflamed, I stopped using them, so now I'm left with no help at all for my eyes. Does anyone know of a mild (even a homemade eye solution) that is soothing to the eyes and will help me. I'm getting anxious, depressed and even fearful that this ocular rosacea can lead to blindness if left untreated. Please, someone help me with a solution. Please e-mail me direct if you will at lcoburnfree@sbcglobal.net. Thank you, Leslie
