Dermatitis

Dermatitis is a severe inflammation of the skin. The other common name for dermatitis is eczema. Dermatitis affects about 1 in 5 people at least once throughout their lives. This skin disorder has many known causes - including irritant contact, allergic contact and immune disease. Depending on its influences, dermatitis can appear in a variety of types. The most frequently diagnosed types of dermatitis are atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, nummular dermatitis, seborrhoeic dermatitis, gravitational dermatitis and impetigo or fungal infection.

About 3 years ago I started to get tiny blisters under my skin on the palms of my hands. Now it is in my blood streem and has spreaded to the heels of my feet and my toes. It has crusted both of my big toes over so bad that I have lost my toe nails. The palms of my hands will heal up after three weeks of blisters, oozing, cracking and bleeding and peeling of the skin. It really hurts. I have been giving so many types of creams and lotions. If anyone could give me some new information it will be greatful.

I have had a skin problem on the palm of my left hand, tips of fingers, thumbs and right heel of my foot. The skin gets thick, peels and is constantly flaking. It looks terrible and I've been to more dermotologists than I can count. I've been given dozens of creams that accelerate the peeling but none slow down or prevent the problem. I use Eucerin Aquaphor several times a day to keep the skin looking better but it always drys out. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me? Any help, advice would be appreciated. I'm 54 and got this about 5 years ago out of nowhere. BTW I had 2 different allergy tests and the finding indicated a reaction to the metal "cobalt". Anyway, thanks for your input. Bob

I was diagnosed with nummular dermatitis when I was younger on the inside of my elbow. They gave me a cream to get rid of it and it worked. I haven't had it for years and now I have what seems like the same thing on the back of my hand and the side of my calf. was itchy but now it looks worse (more red and rough) but it is not itchy anymore. I tried first aid ointments and cortisone creams and lotions and nothing really worked. I guess I need to go to the dermatologist AGAIN. Jeez. If anybody has any over the counter remedy ideas let me know. Good luck everybody.

my husband was diagnosed with it and you can get your doctor to write you a prescription cream called triamcinalone it will help alot, also if you get the soap called Aveeno in the light brown box and put about 1/2 cup of cottonseed oil in your bath 2x a week your skin will clear up after about a week or so

i started to use shea cocoa butter with e for stretch marks, while i was pregnant, in the morning and dont bend my arms (i get it on the inside of my elbows very very badly). It was weird to know it calmed my itching down and that buring feeling you get if you itch too much. Its called Palmers cocoa butter formula, and i get it in a tub called tummy butter.. not the lotion cause that actually burns me. i got it very cheapat babies r us. hope that helps.

Regarding "bright red itchy [rash] under both breasts" ... I'm not a dermatologist, but I sometimes get a similar rash in the summertime. Try using an over-the-counter antifungal cream such as Monistat (labeled for vaginal yeast infections) or Tinactin (labeled for jock itch). The spray powder works, too, but it burns like h*** if the skin is already irritated. Wash the area twice daily with soap and water, then pat dry. (Don't' rub!) Consider using a medicated powder such as Gold Bond in the morning to help keep the area dry throughout the day. Apply the Tinactin or Monistat liberally at night before you go to bed. (You can use it during the day, too, but don't wear a bra; it irritates the rash.) If this home treatment clears up the rash, you can prevent it by regular use of the Gold Bond or powder Tinactin spray. Good luck!

My dermatologist cannot or will not explain my condition to me. The meds he has suggested only make the condition much much worse. He says I should expect these problems at my age. Why? No one else in my family has had this condition. Horrible bright red itchy and painful under both breasts, doctor cannot diagnose. Says I must do the diagnosing. How?
