Admit it men! Most of you view a skin care regimen as a wash cloth and the same bar of soap you use in the shower. But regardless of gender, there is so much more involved in caring for your skin - and in fact, men are just as prone to skin ailments and premature aging as women.
The earlier you start caring for your skin, the better, if you want to keep it looking healthy or improve its condition. Looking after your skin is much easier than it was in the past, because nowadays there are so many more products on the market that are designed specifically for men. With everything from facial cleansers to exfoliators filling up the shelves of drug stores and department stores, you no longer have an excuse not to perform regular maintenance!
If you wash your face using soap, use mild facial soap. Never use deodorant soap because it will dry your face out and cause it to become irritated. Rinse with cool or lukewarm water. It is important to moisturize, particularly after shaving. Lubricating your skin will help stave off wrinkles and discoloration. If you use aftershave, you should only apply it to your neck as it may irritate or burn your face, particularly if it contains alcohol.
Another great skin care tip is that pampering does not just have to happen at home! These days there are almost as many spa treatments available for men as for women, so do not think you will be looked down upon as any less of a man if you take in a massage or facial treatment after work! Lots of men are doing it, more than you might think. There are treatments created with men in mind, including sports massages and pedicures, gentlemen's manicures and hot towel facials. There is nothing fluffy about these procedures, but you are guaranteed to feel refreshed and rejuvenated afterward.
The best way to achieve healthy skin is to care for your body as a whole. Find ways to unwind at the end of each day, and eliminate stress from your life. Exercise regularly and eat a balanced diet. Cut back on fatty foods, alcohol and caffeine. If you follow these simple guidelines you can look forward to healthy skin for years to come.
