Stretch Marks
Stretch marks, known medically as "Striae Gravidarum", normally appear on the breasts, upper arms, abdomen, thighs, hips and butt. Although stretch marks are mainly thought of as a female plague; they do occur on male bodies too. However, stretch marks are typically more common in women, with 50- to 90-percent of all pregnant women developing them. Stretch marks are also a regular part of puberty.
Stretch marks occur when the skin is over-extended and the collagen is disrupted. Stretch marks show up as pink, red or purplish lines on the body. Over time they lighten more than the skin surrounding them, taking on a silvery appearance. Stretch marks are almost impossible to get rid of completely, although many lotions and creams - especially those containing vitamin E - claim to do so.
