Fine lines refer to small wrinkles that are caused by the contraction of facial muscles from years of smiling, squinting, frowning or applying makeup roughly. As facial muscles contract, they pull on the surrounding skin and cause a line. Unlike wrinkles, fine lines are barely visible when you stretch the skin of your face.
