Treatments for Mild Acne

Small breakouts of blackheads, whiteheads and pustules are considered mild acne. Most of the global population has suffered from mild acne at one time or another throughout their lives.

Mild acne normally segregates itself on the surface of the face, chest, back and shoulders. Mild acne can usually be controlled at home, by washing the area with a gentle, acne-fighting cleanser. Once the skin is clean and free of dirt your acne-fighting regime can be followed up with the application of a topical anti-acne cream, lotion or you can use an acne-strip to clear potentially clogged pores. Another option is taking oral acne medication, prescribed by a medical doctor or dermatologist.

Most mild acne can be held at bay by washing the affected area gently and using a topical defense - such as benzoyl peroxide - after your regular, twice daily, cleaning regimen. Drugs used to treat mild acne work by either killing bacteria or by unclogging and drying up the sebum and dirt from the pores.

Generally, when using any treatment for mild acne it will take four to eight weeks to see improvements. Once your acne clears, treatment must be continued diligently in order to prevent new pimples from forming.

Mild acne usually doesn't leave scars. However, squeezing, popping or picking at pimples increases skin inflammation, irritation and puts the skin at risk of scarring.
