Cystic Acne
Cystic acne is the most severe type of acne. It's similar to a nodule (a small lump-like collection of tissue), but it's characterized by hard, pus-filled bumps that have a diameter of 5-milimeter or bigger underneath the skin's surface.
Cystic acne refers to the blockage of the sebum glands that have burst open. As a result, the trapped sebum produces inflammation and pus in the surrounding skin tissue. Cystic acne normally occurs on the chest, back and face. This form of acne is very obvious, so individuals who suffer from it are extremely self-conscious. Cystic acne is also the most common type of acne that results scarring because of the urge to pick or pop cysts. However, you should avoid squeezing acne cysts at all costs. Picking them can cause a deeper infection, inflammation and life-long acne scarring.
