Acne Care Tips

A pimple occurs when the pores in the skin become blocked with sebum (oils produced by the skin). Acne is common during puberty due to rapid hormonal changes. It causes the skin to overproduce sebum - especially on the forehead, nose and chin.

People who experience frequent outbreaks of acne should take special care with their skin, as improper treatment of acne picking or popping can cause inflammation and scarring.

Here are some tips to help minimize your breakouts and clear up existing as quickly as possible:

  • Wash your face gently twice daily with warm water and a mild soap that's designed for acne-prone skin.
  • Don't squeeze, pinch, pick or pop your pimples. This only pushes infected material further into the skin and leads to more severe swelling and redness.
  • Avoid touching your face with your fingers. This will only spread the bacteria that cause irritation further. Also wipe down other objects such as the phone receiver, makeup brushes and change your sheets often to avoid further contamination of the face.
  • For those who shave on a daily basis, use a mild shaving cream or gels to prevent lacerating any pimples and spreading acne further.
  • Choose cosmetic products carefully. Only use foundations, blushes and eye shadows that are oil-free. Natural essential oils that contain anti-bacterial properties including lavender, chamomile, lemon, tea tree and basil are ideal to kill the bacteria and lessen acne.
  • It's understandable that you want to make your skin dry rather than oily. But don't make your skin overly dry. Your skin can take this as a signal and start producing even more sebum.
  • After cleansing, use alcohol-free skin toners, oil-free moisturizers and sunscreen to provide your skin with a light shield.

I use a bar of soap by the Purpose brand, specifically for faces. Also, I use benzoyl(sp?) peroxide, and a topical gel. My face is WAY better than it was a year ago.

I used accutane for a month to get rid of my acne, but found that this product had lots of side effects and was hardly any help in getting rid of my acne. I switched over to proactiv which was better than accutane but still lacked the healing power. I need also to mention there were no side effects with procativ, but since I had used it for over a month and found faint results, I finally decided to try something my friend had recommend for me. I started using Zenmed's Derma Cleanse System and believe me the results were quick and amazing to many.
